june 2022 EXHIBITION - circus of light - 21st june - 9th July 2022
This will mark Clementine’s third solo show at Osborne Studio Gallery on Motcomb Street, London.
The exhibition opens on 21st June 2022. There will be private views by invitation in the opening week.
This exhibition is the result of two years work and will include a wide variety of unseen pieces from recent adventures. From travels along the Nile seeing Arabian horses to amazing romantic scenes in Venice and Florence, then returning closer to home to the British coastline and the excitements of the Gifford Circus.
It explores the wonders of light and colour from the dusty Sinai desert to the magical glow of the circus tent. As ever Clementine’s love of horses is present throughout the exhibition.
Clementine introduces her Circus of Light exhibition
After my last Exhibition I spent time studying at the Florence Academy of Art. I was blown away by the glitter of the Italian cities - which led me to want to explore the route of their glamour. The silk road has always been a fascination and the fruits of it are so obvious in Venice and Florence. This interest lead me to the Nile in Egypt, a major passage of the silk road and the scenes of which have not changed for centuries; from spice and camel trading to sailing the river on feluccas. I travelled on a 1920 steamer called ‘The Sudan’, the same boat as Agatha Christie, following in the footsteps of the victorian explorers and spice traders.
On return to the Uk I explored the British coastline that has always been so close to my heart, revisiting the magic of Cornwall and Dorset and the east coast Scotland. The ever changing light providing a life time of interest and wonder.
The wonderful Giffords Circus! This exhibition also contains paintings from time spent at the magical Giffords circus, a traditional British circus that travels the country each summer and an experience which I have always been inthralled by. It has a very special gentle rustic circus charm and its wonderful horses capture childhood imaginations and recreate fantastic memories for me. The paintings capture scenes from the performances as well as the atmosphere that is created around it.
