NOVEMber 2017 - HAIR - SOLD OUT
This was a group exhibition of work by four female artists; Clementine St John Webster, Rosalie Watkin, Beatrice Hasell-McCosh and Emily Ponsonby.
Having searched the streets of London for sitters this group of female artists painted from life capturing the stories behind each sitter. Illogically, the colour of a person’s hair leads our imagination down a specific channel. Reds are fiery, brunettes are faithful and safe and blondes just have more fun. But do they? What happens when we dye our hair? Does it give us permission for our character to morph, for us to take on a persona which is not our own?
Portraiture has a range of meaning to all the artists. Centrally, it is an exploration of the characters and nature from a range of backgrounds and identities, and an investigation of connections between human beings, which has lead them naturally together to present this show.
